The current economic and political crisis has pushed more workers into precarious, informal, and underpaid jobs, which was aggravated by the pandemic. The ILO Global Wage Report 2022-2023 reveals how the severe inflationary crisis, combined with a slowdown in economic growth - driven in part by the war in Ukraine and the global energy crisis - are causing a striking fall in real monthly wages in many countries.

We will need to translate the living wage discussion being had at the global level to the local context and have all stakeholders at the local level working together to realize a living wage economy. Achieving a more sustainable, equitable approach to business will require creative approaches from all stakeholders, including Governments, civil society, trade unions, investors and more to remove barriers.

The objectives of this roundtable discussion are to:

1. Engage key partners and companies in the living wage discussion as an essential aspect of decent work and economic growth

2. Create bottom-up support for a global campaign/call to action on living wage which will be part of the UN Global Compact Sustainable Development Goals movement
